2009 SUMMER READING PROGRAM INFO


2009 SUMMER READING PROGRAM INFORMATION
Be Creative @ your library! It's very important to keep reading during summer break. The Northfield Public Library offers a free and challenging reading program for "read to me kids" and independent readers through 5th grade. The program will run from June 8th through July 30. Awards this year, thanks to funding from the Friends of the Library, are $1 coupons for Northfield businesses.
Reading Booklets will be available at the library beginning June 1.

Schedule
Mondays 6 pm-8:30 Prize & Discovery Drop-in Time
In the children’s area where we can help you find the books you need, complete discoveries and get prizes.


Tuesdays 10 am -Patty Cake Infant Lapsit
Infant Lapsit is specially designed to encourage development of language and motor skills by
incorporating books with simple songs, rhymes and fingerplays. For ages 6-18 months with parent or caregiver.


Tuesdays 1-3 pm - "Scribblers" Kids going into K-3 can drop in anytime between 1 & 3. Library Pages will be in the meeting room to help you find the books and complete discoveries.


Wednesdays 10 am -Toddler Rhyme Time
Is a time to encourage development of language and motor skills by integrating movement, songs, books and rhymes for kids ages 2-3 with parent or caregiver.


Wednesdays 1-3 pm -"Sketchers" Kids going into 4-5 can drop in anytime between 1 & 3 Library Pages will be in the meeting room to help you find the books and complete discoveries.


Wednesday evenings Books & Stars! June 10 through July 29. at various Northfield Parks. Booker opens at 6:30 and the show begins at 7!

Thursdays 10 am - Story Time for 4’s and 5’s
Stories and a craft for the "just about ready for school crowd." For those who are ready to sit and listen to a picture book, sing songs and create a small art project.


Thursdays 11:30 am- Visiting Artist Series
Thanks to a grant from the Northfield Area Foundation we will be hosting a series of 8 visits from area artists. They will present a program about their art or craft for about 45 minutes.

Thursdays 12:45 pm - Readers Lunch Bunch
Once again Northfield’s generous DOMINOS PIZZA is donating pizza to kids who have completed their reading target. (Details on the reading booklets)

10-noon Saturday Prize & Discovery Time
In the children’s area where we can help you find the books you need, complete discoveries and get prizes.

BOOKS & STARS schedule

Enjoy free, fun family entertainment at various parks throughout Northfield! Bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in for fun!

Booker, the Book Bus opens at 6:30 pm. Booker has library books, magazines & movies for all ages. If you need a library card you can get one on Booker! The Cocoa Bean will sell their refreshing Hawaiian Shaved Ice. The proceeds will be donated to library children’s programming.

June 24 at 7 pm at Central Park
Amy & Adams music with many influences Eclectic Folk Rock, Tin Pan Alley, & Bluegrass

July 1 at 7 pm at the Outdoor Pool
Free swim night with donation to the food shelf or the Pool Scholarship Fund.
Wendy’s Wiggle Jiggle & Jam Upbeat and engaging music for children and adults!

July 8 at 7 pm at Central Park
Stompin’ Dixie! A great toe tappin’ Dixieland foursome.

July 15 at 7:30 pm Special late start! at Spring Creek Park
Bavarian Musikmeisters
Authentic Germanic festive music heard in German and Austrian Villages.

July 22 at 7 pm at Odd Fellows Park
New Banjo Boys Jazz Band Crazy, jazzy banjo fun.

July 29 at 7 pm at Central Park
Goodtimes Folk Song Trio
Featuring Mike Hildebrandt, Craig Wasner & Jessy Shouler join them for a good ‘ol sing-a-long!
